Artist Statement

Having my first child at 17, I began to make artwork as a form of self-expression. My artwork was a therapeutic way of working through the emotional toll of being a mother at such a young age. Dealing mostly in portraiture and figurative work, I gravitate toward processes that require physical exertion of energy, whether that be craving a block for a relief print, or using my entire upper body to create a charcoal drawing. The physical act of making art is therapeutic in a way as well, which is why using my body to create pieces is important to my craft. I view myself as my primary audience for my artwork, being that my art is an expression of myself.
